Family Owned Businesses - Year-Long Course Aims to Keep Families in Business

Release Date: August 22, 2009

Below is a description of an upcoming course for people who have or are thinking of starting a family owned business and want to be able to pass it along to their children, grandchildren, etc. There are 10 sessions starting October 27th and costs $995.

Morowitz & Co., a certified public accounting and business consulting firm based in Galloway, will offer a 10-session course for family businesses seeking to learn how to continue the family enterprise through future generations.

The year-long “Family Business Value Management” program starts Oct. 27, and is sponsored by Glenn Insurance, itself a family business that has spanned four generations.

Among the topics to be covered are the economic environment, business planning, financing, growing revenue and cutting costs, financial statements, QuickBooks, wealth creation, business and strategic planning, management best practices, succession planning, and estate planning.

The instructor is Cory Morowitz, a CPA with an MBA from the Wharton School; experts from Glenn Insurance and guest attorneys will contribute, as well.

“This program will provide tools and techniques that are normally unavailable to businesses in southern New Jersey. We hope that it will be a catalyst for economic growth in the region,” Morowitz said.

Glenn Insurance President Tim Glenn said he decided to sponsor the program because it provides “the most comprehensive education resource for family firms in our region of the state.”

The cost to participate is $995. More information can be found at www.morco-cpa.com.
